Which sex ed topics are of most interest to teens?
We believe that these are the topics of pregnancy, infections, and their prevention. That’s why “Feminist Workshop” has organized two lectures for the students of seventh and eighth grades in the “Child-friendly School”. They were led by Liliya Mineralova, a board-certified OB-GYN.
The lecture began with a discussion of the modern family planning methods. Afterward, the doctor went into detail about the structure of the internal and external genitals of both sexes, the structure of eggs and sperm, about pregnancy, orgasm, and its role. At the end of the lessons, children discussed the mechanism and role of contraception and its types.
“Adolescent pregnancy puts great responsibility on both a girl and a boy,” Liliya Mineralova highlighted at the end of the event.
The second lecture focused on sexually transmitted infections and their prevention. The lecturer spoke about symptoms and transmission of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, genital herpes, and other infections. The teens were particularly interested to learn about the illnesses transmitted from mother to child.
In the end, the gynecologist explained when and how one should seek medical help and described the treatment process.
