We keep sharing important knowledge with young people! We have recently held a lecture “Growing up: The Legal Dimension” for high-schoolers from Grade 10 of the School of Economics and Engineering of Lviv economical lyceum.

The lecture was led by the legal expert Hanna Chyr. Together with teenagers, we discussed gender equality, sexual consent, and responsibility for crimes against sexual freedom and inviolability.

The students worked with cases featuring situations that can happen in real life. This way, they learned to identify different kinds of violence. This approach helped the participants to understand the importance of recognizing dangerous situations and violence in different contexts.

“Such lessons are particularly meaningful for school students, because, as practice shows, young people often have misconceptions regarding the age of criminal responsibility for sex crimes. For instance, the majority of students are convinced that responsibility for rape or sexual violence comes after the age of 18, even though the law draws the line at 14 years. Moreover, there is a common misconception that if a minor perpetrates such crimes, it can be resolved with their parents paying a fine. These ideas create a dangerous illusion of impunity, which may have grave repercussions,” Hanna Chyr emphasized.

This lecture marked our continued cooperation with the lyceum. Last time we spoke about hate crimes. We are grateful to the school administration for the opportunity to organize such events. We are convinced that together we can help young people gain useful knowledge and have a responsible attitude toward each other and themselves.
