“Feminist Workshop” has visited the “Intellect” lyceum to discuss gender equality with the 8th-grade students.
Our legal expert Hanna Chyr explained how prejudice affects our lives, why gender stereotypes are not as harmless as they may seem, and how they may lead to violence.
Instead of dry theory, we had a lively discussion and interesting exercises.
Children particularly enjoyed the exercise about Saint Nicholas. They needed to analyze the mismatched presents and determine whose presents they were: do they belong to a girl or a boy.
In addition to stereotypes, we discussed active consent, responsibility for sex crimes, and equal relationships. The lecture ended with numerous follow-up questions that prove that teens are ready to reflect, reassess, and break free of the old patterns.
And we are glad to be part of such changes and inspire young people to expand their worldview!
