On Sunday, April 7 Yaryna Dehtyar, an expert on combatting gender-based violence, led a workshop “Bystander intervention: preventing the violence”.
We spoke about your dos and don’ts after witnessing violence, and tips about talking to police.
During the workshop, the participants got the opportunity to train the intervention strategies at the improvised scenes depicting violence. They also shared their experience witnessing GBV and analyzed their behavior using a new framework.
“If you think that something is wrong, you are probably right. It is better to intervene and later laugh at yourself upon realizing that you misread the situation, than not to intervene and blame yourself for not stopping the violence,” says Lyubov who has organized the event.
