WHAT: English Speaking Club: Gender and Art
WHERE: Feminist Workshop – Rynok square 42 (entrance from the courtyard)
WHEN: February 13 at 20:00
Gender presentations in art are the outcome of the cultural process of defining sexual and social identity. Pictorial art and literature, as means of expression, are some of the main media reflecting this cultural process.
Intellectual perceptions of masculinity and femininity have been transformed into visual arts since ancient times. Female fertility and motherhood, as well as gender relationships, are prevalent themes in ancient depictions.
During this week’s meeting we will discuss how notions of power/ weakness and superiority/inferiority have been shown in art throughout history and how art has reinforced or changed the concept of gender equality.
The workshop is led by Valentina Aslani, a human rights project officer from Italy who worked in the field of women’s rights both in the United Kingdom and India.
